Bryan and I have been *oil pulling* now for about 6 months and we have been thrilled with the results! I will share some of our own personal testimonies in another blog entry…for now….I will let the experts speak to it 🙂 My goodness…..you have something in your pantry at home that could save you thousands of $$$ by not having to be in the dental chair….and that’s just scratching the surface! I love home remedies!

Oil Pulling for a Brighter Smile and Better Health

by Bruce Fife

“That sounds ridiculous,” exclaimed Rick in disbelief. “It will never work. How could it? It doesn’t make any sense.” Rick suffered from chronic sinusitis. At night when lying down, his nose would stop up, making it difficult for him to breathe and to sleep. The congestion also caused him to experience frequent headaches.

The therapy I was telling him about was oil pulling. Although oil pulling has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine, which dates back thousands of years, this modern version is relatively new, at least in the United States. Oil pulling is very simple. Basically all you do is rinse your mouth out with vegetable oil, much like you would with a mouthwash. As simple as it sounds, if done correctly it has a very powerful cleansing and healing affect not only on the mouth and sinuses, but the entire body.

A few days later, Rick called me on the phone. “Wow! This oil pulling stuff really works,” he exclaimed. “My sinuses began to drain immediately. I expelled a lot of dark yellow, gross looking mucous. I’m breathing easier and sleeping better and my headaches are gone!”

I wasn’t surprised with Rick’s success. I hear many similar responses from others with various health problems. “I was skeptical at first,” says Cynthia. “I couldn’t see how swishing oil in my mouth could help with my arthritis. After eight days I noticed the pain in my hands diminished considerably. There was also marked improvement in my neck and I could move my head from side to side without any pain. I was amazed at how quickly I got results. I haven’t felt this good in along time!”

Some people think I’m crazy when I tell them that oil pulling can help those with asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, PMS, and chronic skin problems. Oil pulling works by detoxifying or cleansing the body. In this way, disease promoting toxins are removed, thus allowing the body to heal itself. As a consequence, health problems of all types improve.

“I’ve suffered for several years with joint and lower back pain,” says Anna. “Every morning it was difficult getting out of bed because the pain. After two months of oil pulling the pain is all but gone. I’m amazed. Although I began oil pulling to relieve the joint pain, a few other things happened that I didn’t expect. I’m surprised to see that the eczema on my arm and hand disappearing and my skin becoming smoother and softer. Nothing I had tried before had helped. I sleep better at night too, so I have more energy during the day. I no longer need my mid-day naps. I have so much energy I almost feel like a teenager again. My periods have become more regular with less cramping and less mood swings. Also, my teeth, gums, and tongue are cleaner than they’ve ever been.”

The first thing that most people notice when they start oil pulling is an improvement in their oral health. Teeth become whiter, breath becomes fresher, and the tongue and gums take on a healthy pink color. Even problems such as bleeding gums, tooth decay, and gum disease are greatly diminished or completely healed.

“I had a really bad infection in my mouth,” says Brittany. “It was so painful that I could not sleep. Pain medication helped temporarily. I was sure that I needed another root canal. After hearing about oil pulling I decided to give it a try before going to the dentist. I began oil pulling three times a day. By the very next day the pain was gone! No soreness, nothing. I was shocked. I continue to oil pull and my teeth are whiter and healthier looking then they have ever been. My gums have stopped bleeding, they used to bleed after every brushing. They are no longer receding and my teeth feel tighter. On my last visit to the dentist he was amazed at how much better my teeth and gums looked. He told me to continue to do whatever I was doing.”

Oil pulling traces it roots to oil gargling practiced in Ayurvedic medicine. Oil pulling as we know it today, was introduced in 1992 by Dr. F. Karach, MD. Dr. Karach claimed that oil pulling could cure a variety of illnesses ranging from heart disease and digestive troubles to hormonal disorders. He said it cured him of a chronic blood disorder of 15 years duration and within three days it cured his arthritis, which at times was so painful he was bed ridden. He used the method in his medical practice with great success.

Dr. Karach’s method of oil pulling consists of swishing, not gargling, vegetable oil in the mouth. The oil is “worked” in the mouth by pushing, pulling, and drawing it through the teeth for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. It is done one to three times a day on an empty stomach. The best time is in the morning before eating breakfast, but can be done before any meal. The used oil is discarded and the mouth rinsed out with water. The oil is never swallowed because it is loaded with bacteria, toxins, pus, and mucous.

Sunflower and sesame seed oils are the most commonly used for oil pulling, but any vegetable oil will work. People have had success with olive, coconut, almond, and other oils. I prefer to use coconut oil because of its many health benefits. If you use a mild flavored coconut oil it is very pleasant in the mouth. Some oils, such as extra virgin olive oil, are so strong flavored that many people find them difficult to use.

The oil acts like a cleanser. When you put it in your mouth and work it around your teeth and gums it “pulls” out bacteria and other debris. It acts much like the oil you put in your car engine. The oil picks up dirt and grime. When you drain the oil, it pulls out the dirt and grime with it, leaving the engine relatively clean. Consequently, the engine runs smoother and lasts longer. Likewise, when we expel harmful substances from our bodies our health is improved and we run smoother and last longer.

As simple as it is, oil pulling has a very powerful detoxifying effect. Our mouths are the home to billions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other parasites and their toxins. Candida and Streptococcus are common residents in our mouths. It is these types of germs and their toxic waste products that cause gum disease and tooth decay and contribute to many other health problems including arthritis and heart disease. Our immune system is constantly fighting these troublemakers. If our immune system becomes overloaded or burdened by excessive stress, poor diet, environmental toxins and such, these organisms can spread throughout the body causing secondary infections and chronic inflammation, leading to any number of health problems.

Oil pulling is one of the most remarkable methods of detoxification and healing I have ever experienced in my career as a naturopathic physician. It helped me overcome a chronic skin problem that other forms of detoxification, including numerous juice fasts lasting up to 30 days, were unable to cure.

Oil pulling can work its magic almost instantly. Some people report relief from certain conditions after doing it only once. Minor problems often clear up within a few days. More serious, chronic problems may require a few weeks or several months or more depending on lifestyle issues.

Toxins are pulled from the body the very first time you try it. One of the first cleansing symptoms you will experience is an increased flow of mucous from your throat and sinuses. Mucous drainage is one of the body’s methods of removing toxins. While you are pulling, mucous may build in the back of your throat. You may even have to expel the oil and clear the mucous from your throat before reaching a full 20 minutes. That’s okay, take another spoonful of oil and continue until you’ve pulled for a total of 15-20 minutes. You may also experience a little nausea and perhaps even need to vomit as your body expels toxic waste. Other symptoms may also arise temporarily. These symptoms will subside as your body becomes cleaner and you become more comfortable with oil pulling. Unlike other methods of detoxification that last for only a short time, oil pulling should become a regular part of your daily schedule, like brushing your teeth.

Oil pulling is incredibly effective in brightening teeth, healing gums, preventing bad breath, quenching inflammation, and healing oral infections. It is also effective in treating many systemic conditions throughout the body.

As good as it is, the simple oil pulling method described in this article isn’t always enough. Some people and some conditions require a little extra care. For this reason, I took oil pulling and developed it into a more complete, more effective method that I call Oil Pulling Therapy. This program incorporates medicated coconut oil (which you can make yourself), diet, select nutrients, oral pH balancing procedures, and, for those who have amalgam (mercury) fillings or metal crowns, a detox procedure designed specifically for removing heavy metals, all of which combine to greatly enhance the effects and healing properties of oil pulling. The details of this program are covered in my new book Oil Pulling Therapy: Detoxifying and Healing the Body Through Oral Cleansing.

Oil pulling is cheap; the only expense is for the oil you use. It is very easy; you simply swish oil in your mouth. Compared to other forms of detoxification it is relatively effortless. It doesn’t require dieting, fasting, or consuming unpleasant, and often bowel loosening, mixes of herbs and pills. And it is completely harmless. All you are doing is rinsing your mouth out with vegetable oil—a food. You’re not even swallowing the oil. What can be more benign than that? Nearly anyone can do it, regardless of their level of health. If you have health issues, don’t let the simplicity of oil pulling detour you from trying it. Sometimes the simplest procedures produce the greatest results. ■

Creation Calls

by Brian Doerksen

I have felt the wind blow, whispering your name
I have seen your tears fall when I watch the rain

(chorus 1)

How could I say there is no God
When all around creation calls
A singing bird, a mighty tree
The vast expanse of open sea
Gazing at a bird in flight, soaring through the air
Lying down beneath the stars, I feel your presence there

(chorus 2)

I love to stand at ocean’s shore
And feel the thundering breakers roar
To walk through golden fields of grain
‘Neath endless blue horizon’s frame
Listening to a river run, watering the earth
Fragrance of a rose in bloom, a newborn’s cry at birth

(chorus 1)

How could I say there is no God
When all around creation calls
A singing bird, a mighty tree
The vast expanse of open sea

(chorus 2)

I love to stand at ocean’s shore
And feel the thundering breakers roar
To walk through golden fields of grain
‘Neath endless blue horizon’s frame
I believe, I believe, I believe ~

Just like a child.

FOR TODAY: October 25, 2010

Outside my window… Grey skies….very grey skies….we just experienced our first winter storm here this weekend. It’s raining cats and dogs…..I know…imagine that in the Pacific Northwest….it’s so nice and cozy here in the house with the fire burning in the wood stove though!

I am thinking… about some of the Christmas gifts I will be making.

I am thankful for…God’s infinite love for me and His mercy toward me. I am so thankful He chose me to live for such a time as this…..

I am remembering: the vast mercies that God has shown to me these last 3 years.

From the kitchen… Got the Pork Ribs in the crock pot and the house is smelling yumalicious! Is there anything better than baby back pigsicles with some rice and stir fried veggies? I dunno…..if you know of something….please don’t keep it to yourself….share with me!

I am wearing…Off white jeans and a pink sweatshirt….pink socks and brown scuffs….

I am creating…a monthly menu plan…..I love cooking and baking but sometimes I get into a rut and seem to fall back on things that are easy and well recieved…..when I have even a weak plan to keep me focused….I seem to turn out nicer meals.

Noticing that: Our wonderful Indian Summer has drawn to a close and winter is really here! Wow…..this fall has been one of the most beautiful here in Oregon that I can remember!

Pondering these words:  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:10-12

I am going…to spend the next hour quietly reading and listening to the voice of the Lord…..He speaks when I pull out my ears.

I am reading…The Bible and a book by Francine Rivers titled *A Voice in the Wind* (thank you for loaning it to me Becky) >wink< I am now on chapter 6 of this book and it is starting to really grab me……

I am hoping…these ribs are done by the time Bryan gets home from work and Ashley comes out for dinner….tonight is our weekly date with our daughter and we all watch DWTS together….I know…it sounds silly but it’s one of our things…..tee hee

I am hearing… the rain pouring and the wind blowing!

Around the house…things are looking more life fall, I have my winter *project areas* spread out all around me and the ironing board is up….a sure sign that Christmas projects are in the works.

One of my favorite things…is still waking up to a nice warm fire in the wood stove when the mornings are brisk and chilly…thanks Bryan….you are such a blessing to me. 🙂

A few plans for the rest of the week: This week is wide open for me….with the exception of Thursday…I get to go to Lebanon and hang out with my youngest niece Angela…..I call her Gella…..she is SUCH a sweetheart!! I hear she got a new dirt bike and wants to show me all of her new tricks……be still my heart….

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

Peace....be still......

Ginger Snaps!

A fall favorite around our house 🙂 Ohhhh….my husband is going to love me! Not that he doesn’t already…..I just love seeing him smile after the scent of these delicious cookies wafts up his nose when he comes home from work. Just one of the ways I love blessing that man…..smells from the kitchen almost always work! I love that man!

Ginger Snaps ala Cottonwood Way

5 cups flour
1 tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
1/2 cups molasses
2 eggs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

1. Mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt in a medium sized bowl. Set aside.

2. In large mixing bowl, combine oil and sugar. Mix well. Add molasses and continue stirring. Add eggs one a time, mixing well after each addition.

3. Now add dry mixture in several small batches, mixing well after each addition. Dough will be firm…almost stiff
Put 1 cup of sugar into a small bowl. Roll dough in to small balls, about 1 – 1 1/2 inch in size. Roll balls in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Important to watch these carefully if you like a chewy ginger snap! If you like yours a wee bit crunchy….you can leave them in for up to 2 minutes longer. We love them chewy here!

Makes 5-6 dozen~ depending on the size you make your cookies

In His Grip~

While browsing Elisabeth Elliot’s Devotional Blog….I stumbled across one that just made me giggle….oh how I can see myself in her writings…..I hope you enjoy this like I did 🙂

Several Ways To Make Yourself Miserable: by Elisabeth Elliot

  • Count your troubles, name them one by one–at the breakfast table, if anybody will listen, or as soon as possible thereafter.

  •

  • Worry every day about something. Don’t let yourself get out of practice. It won’t add a cubit to your stature but it might burn a few calories.

  •

  • Pity yourself. If you do enough of this, nobody else will have to do it for you.

  •

  • Devise clever but decent ways to serve God and mammon. After all, a man’s gotta live.

  •

  • Make it your business to find out what the Joneses are buying this year and where they’re going. Try to do them at least one better even if you have to take out another loan to do it.

  •

  • Stay away from absolutes. It’s what’s right for you that matters. Be your own person and don’t allow yourself to get hung up on what others expect of you.

  •

  • Make sure you get your rights. Never mind other people’s. You have your life to live, they have theirs.

  •

  • Don’t fall into any compassion traps–the sort of situation where people can walk all over you. If you get too involved in other people’s troubles, you may neglect your own.

  •

  • Don’t let Bible reading and prayer get in the way of what’s really relevant–things like TV and newspapers. Invisible things are eternal. You want to stick with the visible ones–they’re where it’s at now.

Thank You Lord for keeping me in YOUR Grip….in spite of myself….

Let Me Be a Woman: by Elisabeth Elliot

“When ours are interrupted, his are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes or hours or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable) “toward the goal of true maturity” (Rom 12:2 JBP). ~ Elisabeth Elliot

I’ve read a lot of good books written for women seeking to learn about what it means to be a Daughter of the King of kings, but no author has come close to inspiring me like Elisabeth Elliot.

Elisabeth Elliot is officially one of my favorite Christian writers. Her words are so gentle and smooth without a hint of arrogance or bias. Like a mother’s loving encouragement, she speaks upon her experiences as a woman in the faith and in the context of marriage with beautiful pictures that make me excited and thankful to be a woman too.

The book harbors SUCH wisdom and I recommend it to any woman wanting to grow in Christ. Elisabeth has written many books and I’ve read several of them….it was hard to choose which one to review today…..this one is truly a must read for married women, soon to be brides and even men if they’d like to get some perspective 🙂

So thankful to be a woman In His Grip~

FOR TODAY: October 18, 2010

Outside my windowthe sun is high in the sky again today and our Indian Summer continues to roll itself out 🙂

I am thinking… about my devotional this morning, how it has inspired me to continually ask the Lord for His wisdom and to help me NOT lean on my own understanding.

I am thankful for…God’s infinite love for me and His mercy toward me.

From the kitchen… Not much exciting going on in there today, and probably not for most of the week….I am contending for time with the Lord this week….I am trying to quiet myself to hear direction for a special weekend coming up 🙂

I am wearing…Kahki jeans and pink sweater.

I am creating…working on two special messages to share with the women who will be attending the Connecting Women’s seminar this Sat. Titles~ *Recognizing the Signs of the Times* and *What Now?*

I am going…to the Oregon Coast this weekend to spend time in fellowship with many precious sister’s in the family of God.

I am reading…The Bible and a book by Francine Rivers titled *A Voice in the Wind* (thank you for loaning it to me Becky) >wink<

I am hoping…the Lord will go before my daughter today and make a way for her….trusting He will guide her to some very specific answers today!

I am hearing… the sound of the washing machine and dryer…..it’s actually quite comforting today….strange…maybe….but comforting nonetheless! 🙂

Around the house…things are looking more life fall, I have my winter *project areas* spread out all around me and the ironing board is up….a sure sign that Christmas projects are in the works.

One of my favorite things…is waking up to a nice warm fire in the wood stove when the mornings are brisk and chilly…thanks Bryan….you are such a blessing to me.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I will be focusing on putting together the messages I sense the Lord has put on my heart to share with my precious sister’s this weekend at our day retreat in Newport. Asking for wisdom….direction and his anointing.

Happy to know I am In His Grip~

And who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Esther 4:14

These are such exciting times we live in right now. Bryan, my husband, and I…have had so very many discussions about how things are changing so fast in the world we’ve lived in….grown up in. We agree that the world we grew up in is fading quickly into the rear view mirrors of our lives. Not only because we are aging and our kids are growing….the changes we are talking about are changes we’ve read about in the bible. The word of God foretold us what the world would look like at the time He would come for His Bride! As we talk about these things with one another….inevitably…one of us will break out into a big grin and declare how grateful we are to be alive right now….for such a time as this!

In fact, this is one of the most exciting times to be alive in the history of the earth! With the exception of when Jesus walked the earth Himself.

Sometimes, as I’m preparing for my day, I have to be reminded that it is by God’s strength that I am able. It doesn’t take much for God to show me that He really could do it without me. In fact, there is nothing I do for God of which He could not find someone else to do it better!

Oh, I enjoy serving Him, but if I think about it, does God really need what I do for Him? Afterall, don’t I serve the Creator God? Didn’t He speak the heavens into existence? Isn’t it Him who decides when the rain will fall? Doesn’t He tell the sun when to shine, decorate the skies with the stars, hold the planets in position, and paint the rainbow when it appears?

Wasn’t it God who told the eagle where to build it’s nest? Didn’t He dictate the color of a zebra’s stripes and determine how long a giraffe’s neck would be? And, wasn’t it His decision to allow flies and gnats to remain after the fall?

I don’t know about you, but I get the distinct impression that God knows what He is doing! What does He need from me? NOTHING!

But, I am so grateful God wants me (and you) in spite of ourselves! He doesn’t need me, but He wants me! More than anything, God wants my heart to be fully and completely motivated towards Him! He wants my everything! He wants priority number one in my life! He wants to give me life and peace! He wants me to spend my forever with Him in His Heavenly home! He’s invited me to take up a permanent residence among His chosen few! I’m going to the wedding banquet! My name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!

He has all the wealth, power and prestige of the world, and yet He chose me with which to spend eternity! I can give Him nothing in return, but He accepts me anyway! By the blood of Jesus, and nothing else, I receive it all!

I can almost hear the footsteps of the Messiah!!!

So blessed to know I am In His Grip!!!
