The holidays are sneeking up on us…..quickly!!!

When I was a little girl….my sisters and brother and I always waited for *The Box* that would come from Michigan where my grandparents lived. My mother grew up in the Upper Pennisula….Sault Ste. Marie Michigan and married my father….the military boy she met on the base near the Soo. He brought her all of the way out to the West Coast….Oregon and they began their family 🙂

Ok…I just had to give you a little back ground on how mom ended up here in Oregon 🙂

Now….back to *The Box*

We lived so far from mom’s family that we didn’t get to see much of them while growing up but when we were able to….we KNEW they were our family and we fell in love with them!!

Ok…ok….The Box……well….as Christmas drew near….the four of us kids knew that Grandma and Grandpa always sent a HUGE box….or two….filled with Christmas gifts from them for each of us! It was part of the magic of the season for us kids…waiting for The Box!!! When it arrived…..mom would open it and hand each of us the gifts with our names on them…..it was so stinkin exciting for us! We would immediately run to the Christmas tree and place each of our gifts from grandma and grandpa under the tree! WOW! The tree looked pregnant with gifts after our grandparents Box came!!!

As I grew older……I realized there were other things that came in that box……things my grandmother made for us because we couldn’t be there with her during the Christmas holiday. She sent candies….all kinds of homemade candies and cookies……she sent breads……and THIS is one of the most delicious breads she made. While making this bread the other day….I realized that there were two….hmmm….well….sort of special ingredients in the recipe……ingredients that one might leave out if they didn’t have them on hand. Leaving out these special ingredients would not RUIN the recipe…..but including them….launches this recipe over the top in yummy-ness!!!

See if you can tell me what the two ingredients are…..

HINT: I will reveal the special ingredients in a future post…..for now…..do yourself a favor and don’t leave out ANY of the ingredients in the following recipe if you decide to make it…..:) You’ll thank me later!
